Ultraviolet Wedding Inspiration

Incorporating Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year into Your Wedding Design

When Pantone announced Ultraviolet as it's 2018 color of the year, our imaginations were immediately sparked because of our love of color. While neutral palettes have been a strong wedding trend, we love working with couples looking for bolder colors in their weddings. Here is our wedding inspiration for couples who want to incorporate Ultraviolet into their wedding design.

One of our favorite approaches to working with a specific color is to see how it appears in nature, so we started looking at all of the places we could find hues of ultraviolet. To our surprise, we found it in abundance.  We saw it in the bottom of an almost-ripened blueberry paired with silver and navy, we saw it in anemones with dark centers and vibrant petals.

Ultimately, we found it in the Northern Lights paired with pinks and navy tones against a black sky speckled with white stars. The drama and elegance of the Northern lights creates a cohesive, vibrant wedding design for the modern couple wanting to incorporate rich, bold colors into their wedding decor.

To give you a behind-the-scenes look at our design process, here is the moodboard we designed for this editorial.

Since the Northern Lights themselves are radiant colors against a black, navy and white backdrop, we began our design the same way: hues of ultraviolet against a black, white, and navy backdrop. Invitations and wedding day paper design are your guests' introduction to your wedding day. They set the stage for the celebration. We asked the talented ladies at The Dandelion Patch to create a modern classic design to create the mood for our ultraviolet wedding inspiration.

Similarly, we used a white, black and navy backdrop for the table setting. A white vintage table, black napkin and navy settee create the canvas for ultraviolet accents.

The white sweetheart table works with both a blue velvet settee or gray Queen Anne chairs from Faccia Fresca Vintage.

The floral centerpiece from Petals by the Shore incorporates every variation of ultraviolet and it’s companion hues of royal blue, periwinkle, fuschia, magenta and grape. Privet berries, thistle, sweet peas, delphinium and tulips offer shape and texture to the oversized centerpiece. We chose to situate the centerpiece just off to the side of the table so that guests would be able to see the newlyweds at the sweetheart table.

We maintained the modern classic bridal look with an elegant diamond white silk gown from Caroline Herrara with a deep v-neck and pockets. Ultraviolet suede Jimmy Choo booties for the ceremony were traded for classic black heels for the reception. The groom’s black suit and tie contribute a modern backdrop for the ultraviolet boutonniere along with socks to match the palette perfectly.

We love buttercream cakes and the texture they provide to a simple shape- not to mention the taste. To give it a modern twist, Well Baked by Ayanna aligned the two tiers of the cake to the side rather than in the middle. Our inspiration elements, flowers and blueberries, accented the horizontal lines of buttercream frosting. A perennial favorite, donut holes sit stacked on an ultraviolet cake platter, completing the delicious dessert table.

The concept of the Northern Lights in the night sky also carried into the lounge design. Vibrant ultraviolet florals and an amethyst geode stand out against the backdrop of the navy blue settee, mirrored side tables and two types of chairs in hues of gray. The bridal bouquet rests casually on a silver tray atop a silver bench with black fur, resting from its performance throughout the ceremony.

Beyond the design, what we care most about is enabling an utterly in love couple to be carefree and fully present to their wedding day. While this was an inspiration session, our real couple Amanda and >>> displayed the kind of love and joy that inspires us to do our best creative work.  Take a look at their smiles and love that radiate in the images captured by Susie and Becky Photography.
